3 Bullets of Updates:

I was on the Chiwi Journal podcast! Camellia and I talked about Write of Passage, living a multicultural life, Buddhism, neuroscience, psychedelic therapy, and more. Appreciate you giving it a listen here and letting me know what you think! I have so many learnings from doing this podcast, namely that I have way too many things I wanted to talk about and we actually never got through the whole list. So if any of you plan to be on a podcast in the future, my unsolicited advice would be to pare down the number of topics!

The Alliance for Bhikkhunis: **Some of you might know that I’m the treasurer for the Alliance for Bhikkhunis, the world’s only **non-profit supporting Theravadan Buddhist monastic women. I spent a chunk of this week preparing for our board meeting, and it’s been busy (in a good way) with more donations every year. This is something I’m passionate about supporting because I see monastics as the ā€œacademia of religionā€ā€”they are devoting their entire lives to understanding Buddhism, and don’t have a penny to their name! I have an essay in mind that dives deeper into this topic to talk about the role of generosity in spiritual practice, and how the Buddha originally designed the fourfold sangha with monastic and lay people supporting each other. It’s a historical example of a DAO to me. I’m hoping that writing about this topic will help me stay updated on the latest in web3 too. What do you think?

3 Bullets of Vulnerability*:

Oh boy, this week has made me realized that perhaps building 3 businesses, 2 doing 2 cohort-based courses, and running 1 non-profit all simultaneously might have me strayed from my original goals. You might laugh but my original goals have always been to design a life where I can 1) go on longer meditation retreats and 2) have a peaceful ideal day where I get to take time to do deep work and spend quality time with Yuhong. Oops!

There’s quite a lot to unpack here and warrants its own essay (ha!) but essentially, I can see that there’s subconscious mistrust of whether my goals are even achievable—I seem to model ā€œsuccessā€ from seeing how my family works (aka all the time), and don’t think that one can ā€œget thereā€ without being busy and exhausted all the time.

I also want to work on trusting that I won’t ā€œslack off.ā€ It’s almost like I entirely rely my internal drive to do things based on fear, instead of hope, you know? It’s ā€œserved me wellā€ to get to where I am today, but I can’t imagine keeping this up for another decade…I’m exhausted just thinking about it! So this Thanksgiving I’ve given myself the task (ha!) of un-tasking myself. Build a realistic ideal day that is enjoyable.
